IDLO and World Humanitarian Day

As the United Nations celebrates World Humanitarian Day 2013, IDLO continues to harness the power of law in the service of post-disaster reconstruction.

Earlier this year, speaking to the UN Humanitarian Coordinators in Geneva, IDLO Director-General Irene Khan, paid tribute to their work. But she also spoke firmly for putting law at the heart of humanitarian action.

Afghanistan: Stemming the Flow of Cash, Smoothing the Course of Justice

One of the most vital components of IDLO’s judicial training program in Afghanistan is well underway, with dozens of legal professionals -- 12 percent of them female – receiving intensive training in the fight against money-laundering. Attendees include judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys and Criminal Investigation Department officers.

Las mujeres víctimas de violencia en el Cantón fronterizo de Upala, Costa Rica, podrán contar con una importante herramienta de acceso a la justicia gracias a la firma, el 20 de setiembre, de una carta de entendimiento para la aplicación del “Modelo de Actuación para orientar, asistir y proteger a mujeres migrantes, transfronterizas y refugiadas víctimas de violencia”.

IDLO Director-General Joins World Leaders in New York for UN General Assembly

New York, September 24 - IDLO Director-General Irene Khan joined world leaders in New York on the occasion of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Beginning today and continuing through October 1st, the General Debate will provide an opportunity for high-level officials to discuss the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
