IDLO mourns Filipino lawyer Tadiar

IDLO mourns the loss of Professor Alfredo Flores Tadiar who was the former Chair of IDLO’s Board of Advisers.  On December 3, 2015, Prof. Tadiar sadly passed from a brain stem infarct.

IDLO was honored to have Prof. Tadiar serve on the Board of Advisors from 2008-2012, and greatly benefited from his strong leadership in the area of law, justice and development.

Prof. Tadiar’s advocacy for and commitment to the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) movement led to his recognition by Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr. as the "father of ADR in the Philippines". He was Chairman of the National Amnesty Commission of the Philippines from 1996 to 2003, and was the pioneering Chair of the Government Panel to negotiate peace with military rebels who sought to topple the government of Corazon Aquino in various coup attempts.

Today, IDLO is deeply saddened by the departure of such a brilliant lawyer and strong advocate for peace and justice. We will be forever grateful for his friendship, leadership and tireless commitment to improving the lives of people around the world.

The Philippines has been a Member Party of IDLO since 1989.
