This sub-project aims to contribute to the legal empowerment of women and girls in the commune of Tillabéri in Niger, and facilitate their access to the formal justice system and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Femmes, Actions et Développement (FAD) is delivering training for women on criminal law and procedures, the drafting of complaints and referral methods to the formal justice system and the NHRC, and training for human rights defenders on gender-based violence (GBV), human rights monitoring, criminal procedures and the drafting of alternative reports in order to strengthen the links between victims, investigative units and judicial and paralegal services in the commune of Tillabéri. Furthermore, in order to enhance the legal empowerment of women and the more vulnerable population, FAD is delivering educational talks on criminal law and the functioning of judicial and para-judicial institutions, and conducting radio talk shows in the local language on referral methods to the formal justice system and the NHRC. Finally, FAD is developing and disseminating a guide on criminal justice as a means of increasing an understanding of the criminal justice system by the population, human rights organizations, legal professionals and regional and local authorities.
