Chile

English

A stable democracy since 1990, Chile is one of the most flourishing economies in Latin America. Its relative prosperity makes the country an attractive destination for migrant workers from the region and beyond, exposing it to human trafficking.

The 2013 US State Department report on human trafficking identified Chile as "a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labor".

Beginning in 2013, IDLO supports the Chilean authoritie in their anti-trafficking efforts.

Assisting Trafficking Victims in Chile

IDLO is working with the European Union’s EUROsociAL program to strengthen access to justice for victims of trafficking. We are assisting Chile’s Ministry of Justice (MOJ) to coordinate orientation services and legal assistance in order to protect and empower the most vulnerable. IDLO has drafted a protocol involving, among others, the Chilean Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor's office: it enables various institutions to offer a coherent, efficient response to the phenomenon of trafficking.
