Italy Envoy Hails 'Strategic' IDLO Relationship

"Our relationship with IDLO is a strategic one," said Pierfrancesco Sacco as he presented his credentials to IDLO Director-General Irene Khan, on March 17. Ambassador Sacco is Italy's new envoy to the United Nations agencies in Rome, whose mandate encompasses IDLO. He takes over from Gianni Ghisi, a long-standing friend and staunch supporter of the Organization.

Ambassador Sacco outlined areas of strong convergence between IDLO's activities and Italy's foreign policy priorities, which focus on the judicial policy component of sustainable development. Areas of mutual interest are inclusivity, good governance and transparency -- all conducive to stability and the rule of law, Ambassador Sacco stressed.

Italy, which hosts IDLO's headquarters, is the Organization's ex officio Vice-President, as well as an important donor and partner.
