Based on the results achieved through previous programming, this sub-project aims to contribute to improved access to justice and protection of the rights of women, children and other vulnerable people in Uganda. In order to increase legal awareness and confidence to claim and defend the rights of vulnerable groups, the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda) is holding a series of community outreach sessions on legal and economic rights, access to justice mechanisms, and prevention and response to gender-based violence and trafficking in persons targeting women, youth, children, and the community at large. In addition, FIDA-Uganda is providing legal aid services through lawyers and qualified trained community legal volunteers to vulnerable groups, including women, children, refugees, and people with disabilities; providing technical and logistical support for the re-establishment and operationalization of Family Justice Desks at the court in the Wakiso district; and holding quarterly mobile legal aid clinics in four (4) districts. Finally, to improve access to child-sensitive justice and legal aid services for children in conflict with the law, the implementing partner is further providing legal aid services at remand homes and supporting the reintegration of children into their families and communities through family tracing, counselling, relocation support and provision of basic necessities.
