Under the framework of the Global Regulatory and Fiscal Capacity Building Programme (Global RECAP), and implemented in coordination with national and international partners at country level, including the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), this sub-project aims to create a supportive environment for the Government of Thailand to sustain a regulatory process for the marketing of food and non-alcoholic beverages to children, in line with Government priorities. The NCD Alliance Association of Thailand is supporting the establishment and operationalization of a coalition of key stakeholders – including Government institutions, media, civil society and international organizations - to coordinate and lead advocacy initiatives. The implementing partner is also organizing a series of focus group discussions with target audiences – such as teachers, parents, youth and community groups – to raise awareness of the importance of protecting children from harmful marketing practices of food and beverages that affect children’s health. In addition, capacity development activities are being delivered to coalition members and partners to strengthen effective policy advocacy. In parallel, the Alliance is implementing a series of evidence-based advocacy activities – including the development of research products, policy briefs and sensitization meetings targeting high-level decision makers to increase political commitment around the regulatory process. Finally, the Alliance is organizing a public awareness-raising campaign on the impact of harmful food marketing on children’s health through various channels, including media platforms, local actors, and advocacy groups, and is establishing a monitoring system to track public attitudes and inform advocacy strategies.
