Assembly 2019
The 2019 meeting of IDLO's Assembly of Parties took place on 13 November in Rome. The meeting was chaired by the United States as IDLO’s President (2018 - 2020).
Over 60 delegations attended the meeting of the Assembly of Parties, including representatives of 35 Member Parties, 30 governments and 10 international organizations in observer capacity.
IDLO's Director-General Irene Khan presented her report to the Assembly. The Assembly then adopted the 2020 Management Plan [1] and Budget and elected the new Members of the Governing Bodies and Board of Advisers. [2]
The Assembly also approved a number of resolutions [3], including one encouraging Member Parties to conclude Host Country Agreements in line with article 8 of the IDLO Establishment Agreement.
IDLO Member Parties welcomed and approved a request by the Government of Niger to join IDLO as a Member.
The Assembly elected Jan Beagle as the new Director-General of IDLO. Ms. Khan completes her second and final term as Director-General on 31 December 2019 and Ms. Beagle will start on 1 January 2020 for a term of four years.
During the annual meeting of the Assembly, a thematic discussion was held on “Accelerating action to achieve the 2030 Agenda: Leveraging the rule of law to build peace and sustainable development [4]”, which featured a keynote address delivered by Adama Dieng, United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, followed by an interactive dialogue moderated by Ms. Khan.
