From her base in the Italian capital, Irene Khan is in a constant battle to protect international law

“Rome is very human,” reflects Irene Khan. “It’s a manageable size, and personal.” The Bangladeshi human rights lawyer has plenty to compare it with. An almost life-long expatriate, transferring from Dhaka to the UK, the US and Geneva, she arrived in Rome from London in 2012 as head of the International Development Law Organization.
