Una historia de violencia ha dejado profundas cicatrices en el tejido social del sector Chamelecón, Honduras. A través de un curso de fotografía, IDLO ha capacitado a un grupo de jóvenes de la zona para ayudarlos a descubrir su potencial y superar un legado de discriminación y exclusión.
Capacitados en conocimientos de derechos humanos y habilidades con la cámara fotográfica, los participantes capturaron diversos momentos de su entorno comunitario y vida de una población dinámica y perseverante. Esta exposición fotográfica, Pixeles de Vida, es la nueva imagen de Chamelecón para la sociedad. Un retrato de esperanza. Los participantes, jóvenes en edades de 18 a 25 años, con sus fotografías buscan mostrar aspectos positivos de la comunidad y ser parte de una sociedad inclusiva.
La exposición fotográfica estará en muestra desde el 21 de febrero hasta el 18 de marzo de 2018 al Museo para la Identidad Nacional en Tegucigalpa, antes de iniciar una gira virtual.
Con el programa “Reducción de Homicidios y Violencia a través del Acceso a la Justicia”, financiado por el Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos, IDLO trabaja en Honduras para mejorar el acceso a la justicia para algunas de las poblaciones más vulnerables, incluyendo mujeres, ancianos, personas con alguna discapacidad física o mental, y jóvenes.
Pixels of Life: reducing violence through photography
A history of violence has left deep scars in the social fabric of the Chamelecón neighborhood in Honduras. Through a photography course, IDLO trained a group of young people in the area to help them discover their potential and overcome a legacy of discrimination and exclusion.
Building their knowledge of human rights and photography skills, participants captured images of the community and the lives of its dynamic and courageous population. This exhibition, Pixels of Life, shows a new face of Chamelecón. A portrait of hope. Through their photographs, the participants - young people aged 18 to 25 - seek to portray the positive aspects of their community and become part of an inclusive society.
The photographs will be on show from February 21 to March 18, 2018 at the Museum for National Identity in Tegucigalpa, before being launched online as a virtual exhibition.
Through its program “Reducing Homicide and Violence through Access to Justice”, funded by the United States Department of State, IDLO is working in Honduras to improve access to justice for some of the most vulnerable populations, including women, the elderly, people with physical or mental disabilities, and youth.

Los lugares recreativos no son un lujo, son un espacio de encuentro, donde renace la convivencia. New public parks opened by the local government have allowed children to return to play outdoors and live their childhood without fear or behind closed doors. Recreational spaces are not a luxury; they are a meeting place where coexistence is reborn. |

La decisión de alejarse de las influencias negativas y luchar por alcanzar sus sueños es un reto grande. En esos momentos es importante que ellos puedan encontrar oportunidades en la sociedad, en las instituciones y en su país. Growing up surrounded by violence can damage young people’s prospects. The decision to move away from negative influences and fight for their dreams is a big challenge. In those decisive moments, it’s important that young people have the chance to find opportunities in society, in institutions and in their country. |

Durante niñez la persona debería estar creciendo acompañada de la educación, para que al llegar a la etapa de adulto, sean personas comprometidas con el país. All children are born with a thirst for knowledge. Access to education should not be a matter of luck; it is a basic human right. Children should grow up surrounded by education, so that by the time they reach adulthood, they are responsible citizens. |

Así es como nacen los agentes de cambio de la sociedad. A young person in a violent neighborhood risks continuing down the same negative path in which he or she has been raised. But if this young person finds a positive opportunity to choose a different path, thus breaking the mould, it will mark a new path for others to follow. This is how agents of change are born in society. |
