IDLO at COP29

From 11-22 November 2024, IDLO will join leaders, advocates, international organizations and stakeholders from around the world at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference (COP29). The annual conference will be hosted this year in Baku by the Government of Azerbaijan.

With the climate crisis exacerbating justice needs around the world, the rule of law can be an important driver of fair, equitable and transformative climate action that delivers for both people and the planet. At COP29, IDLO will showcase examples, best practices, lessons learned and recommendations from its work around the world.

IDLO will participate in several COP 29 events exploring international environmental law and climate justice, and solutions to mitigate climate change-driven gender-based violence.

Events include:
What: A panel of leading experts on climate justice and environmental rule of law, including governments, the judiciary, civil society and academia, will discuss how legal decisions on global climate cases can drive local action and promote climate justice for all.

What: The event brings together hundreds of parliamentarians from around the world to chart a course for shared parliamentary solutions to the most pressing climate issues.

Scaling-up Solutions to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence in the Context of the Climate Crisis
What: Representatives from governments, civil society, activist groups and the private sector will engage in a dynamic round table-style discussion on accelerating effective solutions to mitigate climate change-driven gender-based violence and support women and girls impacted by disasters and land conflicts, with a focus on feminist climate justice.
