In 2024, climate change cases have been heard for the first time in international courts and tribunals. This is thanks in large part to the advocacy of those on the front lines of the climate crisis, including Small Island Developing States, global youth networks and groups of women and girls.
The outcomes of this climate litigation stand to provide much-needed legal certainty on climate rights and obligations, and to bolster efforts for justice and accountability in the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
This event will bring together a panel of leading experts on climate justice and environmental rule of law, including governments, the judiciary, civil society and academia. Participants will discuss how global cases can drive climate action at local levels, identify challenges and opportunities for justice seekers in upholding their rights, and explore ways in which international decisions can promote climate justice.
