Translating Kuwait's commercial laws

As Kuwait continues to establish a welcoming climate for foreign investment and develops policies to expand the role of the private sector in the production of goods and services, easier access to regulatory information is needed. Access to this information is associated with greater regulatory efficiency, lower compliance costs, and better quality for businesses. Currently, English translations of Kuwaiti commercial laws are only available through paid services. As such, successful efforts to make these laws accessible to a broad range of international investors could increase Kuwait’s share of the global economy. To this end, IDLO supported the Department of Legal Advice and Legislation (DLAL) by translating and interpreting Kuwaiti laws related to economic, commercial and investment activities from Arabic to English.

In partnership with the DLAL, IDLO implemented the pilot program to make these laws accessible and understandable in a manner relevant to international community practices by developing guidelines for standard translation.
