IDLO’s work in Jordan centres on promoting economic growth by supporting the development of stronger legal frameworks and improved access to justice.

IDLO has been active in Jordan since 2000 and has continued to scale up its engagement in the decades since. In 2009, Jordan became an IDLO Member Party and in 2019 IDLO’s legal status in the country was recognized through a Host Country Agreement.

Over the years, IDLO’s efforts have enhanced the capacities of Jordan’s Ministry of Justice and Judiciary, along with civil society organizations and the private sector.

IDLO works to stop stigma and raise awareness of HIV and rights in Jordan

Though constitutionally people living with HIV in Jordan have the same legal rights as anyone else, many don’t know or access their rights, and often don’t seek medical treatment for fear of being turned away.

Key Initiatives

Jordan - Insolvency Law Judicial Training

In 2018, Jordan introduced a new insolvency law to support the recovery of distressed but viable businesses. The law and its by-laws outline insolvency procedures and the relevant regulatory bodies, covering economic activities by traders and companies. In collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, IDLO is assisting the Judicial Council and Judicial Institute of Jordan in developing training materials to be used in blended learning modules to enhance judges' capacity to manage insolvency cases under the new law.
Jordan - Commercial Mediation Action Plan

In partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, IDLO successfully concluded a project in 2023 to promote commercial mediation in Jordan. Through awareness-raising, legal framework evaluation and the creation of a National Action Plan, the project advocated for the establishment of mediation as an effective dispute resolution method.
