The sub-project aimed to strengthen human rights-based advocacy initiatives to support regulatory and fiscal measures that promote healthy diets by adopting a two-pronged approach based on: i) multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder advocacy platforms; and ii) legal empowerment through awareness-raising and capacity development. In this framework, CEFROHT contributed to healthy diet reforms through the establishment of an Advocacy Working Group (AWG) composed of representatives from Government, civil society organizations (CSOs), academia and the media. Following the development of a series of policy briefs on nutrition labeling, taxes on sugar sweetened beverages, restrictions on marketing unhealthy foods and non-alcoholic beverages to children and physical activity, the AWG engaged in advocacy initiatives, including policy and national dialogues, to raise stakeholders’ awareness and collaborate with Government officials and policy makers on regulatory and fiscal measures for the promotion of healthy diets and physical activity. By combining two (2) approaches (Human Rights-Based approach and Legal Empowerment and Social Accountability strategies), CEFROHT also fostered community awareness-raising and capacity development for CSOs, legal practitioners and media personnel by holding a series of workshops and seminars on regulatory and fiscal measures for the promotion of healthy diets and physical activity.
