This sub-project aimed to improve access to land justice for the poor and vulnerable population in Uganda by developing increased cooperation between informal and formal land governance, as well as increased community responsiveness towards land rights. LANDnet delivered a series of training sessions for judicial officers, local government officials and customary land justice actors on principles of customary land justice (CLJ) and consideration of gender in land justice; convened semi-annual reflection and synergy-building meetings for the above beneficiaries to strengthen the application of CLJ principles in court and among traditional leaders, and facilitated legal aid and court representation for vulnerable communities. The implementing partner further organized a bar-bench land justice forum to streamline access to land justice; conducted community sensitization meetings and organized radio talk shows on land rights to enhance awareness on the topic and support quality legal aid services for vulnerable people in Kitgum and Moroto.
