This sub-project aims to enhance access to justice for marginalized and vulnerable communities of Kabale, Masindi, Kabarole, Gulu, Jinja, Kampala, in Uganda. The Uganda Law Society (ULS), through its legal aid clinics, is providing the indigent, vulnerable and marginalized communities with quality legal aid services, such as legal advice, counselling, alternative dispute resolution and court representation. The implementing partner is also raising community awareness on legal rights, responsibilities and availability of services through sensitization sessions, multimedia and public awareness campaigns in schools, marketplaces, trading centres, prisons and others points of congregation. Finally, the ULS is advocating for the Legal Aid Bill passing and for the operationalization of the Pro Bono Regulations, ensuring a legal and regulatory environment that promotes access to justice for indigent, vulnerable and marginalized people. Beneficiaries of the sub-project include women, elderly people, prisoners, people with disabilities, low-income households, orphans, victims of land grabbing and of gender based-violence, refugees and communities recovering from conflict.
