This sub-project aims to enhance access to justice and reduce human rights violations by improving the functioning of the criminal justice system for the populations in the Mopti and Bandiangara regions in Mali. In order to enhance the quality of legal assistance and conditions for access to legal aid in gender-based-violence (GBV) cases and pre-trial detention, the Organisation pour un Développement Intégré au Sahel (ODI-Sahel) is providing technical and logistical support to the local detention centres and investigation facilities. Furthermore, the implementing partner is increasing the capacity of, and coordination among, criminal justice actors, civil society organizations and community leaders in the fight against GBV through the development of a functioning integrated framework for the protection of the rights of litigants and female GBV survivors. Accordingly, ODI-Sahel is organizing a series of awareness-raising discussion events at the community level; facilitating Information, Education and Communication sessions on access to justice and the criminal justice system; running broadcasts on GBV cases and victim support; hosting community meetings on GBV case management and human rights; and delivering a series of training sessions on gender and GBV victim assistance for actors of the criminal justice system, religious and community leaders, doctors, magistrates and lawyers. Finally, ODI-Sahel is supporting the reintegration into society of women, girls and youth, in conflict with the law by providing counselling and economic rehabilitation funds.
