Under the framework of the Global Regulatory and Fiscal Capacity Building Programme (Global RECAP), this sub-project aims to strengthen national capacity for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through the integration of legal and regulatory approaches into public health and law education in Bangladesh. Based on the findings of a mapping exercise and participatory process, the BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (BRAC) is developing teaching materials and resources on legal approaches to NCD-prevention to implement pilot interdisciplinary modules and other academic initiatives in at least five (5) target institutions. As part of this effort, BRAC is also delivering a series of capacity development activities on legal approaches to NCD prevention and health law for faculty members and students. Building on the pilot intervention, BRAC is developing recommendations to integrate legal and regulatory approaches into academic curricula in law and public health departments within academic institutions. Finally, in order to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration between law and public health faculties on law and NCD prevention, BRAC is supporting the establishment of a formal academic collaboration framework fostered by a pool of selected experts.
