CSW62 | IDLO at the Commission on the Status of Women

The 62nd session of the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will be held at the United Nations in New York from March 12 to 23, 2018. The Commission is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of women’s rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women. The priority theme for 2018 will be “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls”. Ensuring women’s empowerment and gender equality though the rule of law has been a key component of IDLO’s work around the world, both at the policy and programmatic levels. In particular, IDLO’s Gender Strategy emphasizes the centrality of the rule of law in helping women to become equal partners in decision-making and development, and in achieving justice.

In an effort to further highlight the importance of women’s empowerment and women’s rights within the context of justice and sustainable development, IDLO will be actively contributing to the work of the Commission by participating in the UN General Debate and by co-organizing three events during the ministerial week (March 12-16, 2018). Our gender work

8 March, 2018

Gender discrimination is an affront to human dignity, a challenge to the rule of law and an obstacle to development. Gender inequality denies women their rightful place in society and robs societies of the contribution of half of their members.
