CSW63 | IDLO at the Commission on the Status of Women

The sixty-third session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63) will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 11 to 22 March 2019. The Commission is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of women’s rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women. The priority theme for 2019 will be “Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls”. Ensuring women’s empowerment and gender equality though the rule of law has been a key component of IDLO’s work around the world, both at the policy and programmatic levels. In particular, IDLO’s Gender Strategy emphasizes the centrality of the rule of law in helping women to become equal partners in decision-making and development, and in achieving justice.

In an effort to further highlight the importance of women’s empowerment and women’s rights within the context of justice and sustainable development, IDLO will be actively contributing to the work of the Commission by participating in the UN General Debate and by co-organizing three events during the ministerial week (March 11-15, 2019). Our gender work

The 2019 International Women’s Day campaign #balanceforbetter focuses on the need for continuous collective action towards a gender-balanced world. This balance is not solely a woman’s issue as gender-balance is now expected in business, the media, government, the judiciary and beyond.

As a shared responsibility, we all have to do our part to make this happen.

IDLO advocates that everyone regardless of gender is equal before the eyes of the law. And it is through the rule of law that the rights of women and men, particularly access to justice, are guaranteed and kept equal. Read article
