As part of its efforts to build the capacity of Afghanistan’s justice sector through the Justice Training Transition Program (JTTP), IDLO has organized an exposure visit for Afghan justice professionals to Italian institutions. From 25 – 29 September 2017, the delegation - composed of 4 senior officials from Afghanistan’s Supreme Court and 3 IDLO staff members from its office in Kabul - will visit Italian justice institutions in Rome and Florence involved in pre-service and in-service judicial training for judges.
The purpose of the visit is to provide participants with the opportunity to learn from experiences of their Italian counterparts and to be exposed to best practices of well-established judicial training institutions in promoting Continual Professional Development.
Continuing the work of JTTP, IDLO launched the JTTP Follow On in 2016, which aims to improve the technical capacity of Afghanistan’s justice institutions to provide enabling conditions for Continual Professional Development. Specifically, IDLO is working to enable to the Judicial Education Department of the Supreme Court of Afghanistan to operationalize and manage sustainable pre- and in-service training for judges and court clerks.
During the visit, the Afghan delegation will learn about the institutional management and legislative framework of the host institutions, training planning and management, socialization of training plans among the judiciary and the role of various departments to operationalize training, with a view to returning to Afghanistan with new ideas for enhanced models on Continual Professional Development.
