National forum on Rule of Law in Tanzania

Tanzania's first national Rule of Law Stakeholders' Forum, organized by IDLO, is taking place in Dar es Salaam on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December. IDLO's Enid Muthoni has described the event as "an opportunity to facilitate dialogue for actors from different ends of the justice spectrum.”

While amplifying the voice of legal and justice sector professionals on the national stage, the Forum aims to showcase good practice in the rule of law and identify areas for improvement and collaboration. The agenda covers institutional reform; legal and constitutional reforms; governance, democracy and human rights; environment, natural resources and extractive industries; and partnerships and financing for development.

Attorney General George Masaju and former President Benjamin Mkapa were expected to address the opening session. Participants include high and working level representatives of the justice sector and the judiciary of Tanzania, other government institutions and law enforcement agencies, the business sector, law schools, bar associations and civil society organizations, as well as representatives of international organizations and development institutions.

The Forum's outcomes and findings will inform IDLO's Africa Initiative on the Rule of Law and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
