High-Level Regional Conference on Land and Conflict in the East and Horn of Africa

Call for Papers – IDLO/IGAD High-Level Conference on Land and Conflict

The International Development Law Organization (IDLO), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Supporting Pastoralism and Agriculture in Recurrent and Protracted Crises (SPARC) and the International Land Coalition (ILC), with the Government of Uganda, will hold a High-Level Regional Conference on Land and Conflict in the East and Horn of Africa, from 24–28 October in Kampala, Uganda. The event will include a Regional Policy segment to explore the links between land governance and conflict and the need for a people-centred approach, focused on access to justice and the rule of law, peace, sustainable development, gender equality and climate action.

We invite submissions of (i) proposals for papers, in English, for each session of the Regional Policy Conference, and (ii) abstracts recommending a session structure and panel composition reflecting disciplinary, geographic and gender diversity. Abstracts and papers are encouraged from individuals, organizations, universities and think tanks, and must be aligned with one of the Conference’s four thematic areas:

  1. Access to justice and responsible land governance
  2. Land conflict, peace and security
  3. Land rights, climate change and food systems; and
  4. Realizing the rights to land of women and girls.

Proposals should clearly state the objectives of the session, provide a contextual analysis of the selected thematic area within the IGAD region and identify best practices and adaptable evidence-based approaches. While it is highly recommended that submissions be made for both abstracts of panel composition and the corresponding proposal of papers, IDLO and IGAD also welcome stand-alone submissions. Due to the time constraints, only a selected number of proposals will be accepted.
