2019 Meeting of IDLO's Assembly of Parties and Thematic Discussion

11 nov 2019

Rome, November 11, 2019 – The International Development Law Organization (IDLO) will hold the annual meeting of its Assembly of Parties and a thematic discussion on ‘Accelerating action to achieve the 2030 Agenda: Leveraging the rule of law to build peace and sustainable development’ at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome on 13 November 2019.

Building on international calls to accelerate action and engage all actors on the implementation of Sustainable Development Global 16 (SDG 16), the thematic discussion will look at emerging good practices and ways to leverage the multidimensional value of the rule of law in enhancing positive outcomes across all Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Adama Dieng, Special Adviser of the United Nations Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, will deliver a keynote address, followed by an interactive dialogue with special guests and distinguished speakers to share – from national, regional and global perspectives – experiences and lessons learned in advancing social inclusion, pursuing legal reforms and strengthening institutions to prevent conflict, embed peace and promote sustainable development.

The session will prepare the ground for a conference to be held in Rome in 2020, following up the SDG 16 Conference co-organized by IDLO and UN DESA with the Government of Italy in May 2019.

The 2019 meeting of the Assembly of Parties will also see the election of IDLO's next Director-General, as the current Director-General, Irene Khan, concludes her final term.
