Strengthening the capacity of the Attorney General's office

An effective prosecution service is critical to the provision of justice, stability and peace in Somalia. But the absence of a robust, independent and competent prosecutorial service has contributed to a climate of impunity, increasing the proliferation of both low-level and serious crimes, including terrorism, corruption and gender-based violence throughout Somalia. IDLO, with support from the Government of the Netherlands, is implementing a project to enhance the capacity of the Somali Attorney General’s Office (AGO) to fulfil its core functions of investigating and prosecuting crimes throughout Somalia and strengthen access to justice in the country. IDLO will support training on prosecutorial functions, skills and procedural laws and assist in developing an awareness campaign to increase public knowledge about the role and functions of the AGO.
