IDLO hosts forum to foster global collaborations biodiversity laws at the CBD COP 11 Meeting

At the 11th Conference of the Parties of the CBD held in Hyderabad, India, IDLO and the CBD Secretariat hosted a workshop and roundtable discussion event titled “Building a Global Partnership for Achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets” on Saturday October 13, 2012. Attended by over 70 COP delegates, the event featured an expert panel discussion on biodiversity law and presentation of new legal studies and tools being developed under the Initiative. Delegates and experts engaged in small-group “Knowledge Café” sessions to discuss the real-world challenges and opportunities of using law for biodiversity.  Dr. Braulio Ferreira de Souza, Executive Secretary of the CBD Secretariat chaired an open Roundtable discussion during which attendees, including representatives from IDLO, FAO, World Bank and IUCN, expressed their ideas and strong support for global programming coordinated under the Initiative to assist countries to use law to achieve national goals related to the Aichi Targets.  The event was supported by the Japan Biodiversity Fund.
