Experts discuss HIV legal services in MENA

Lawyers, academics, and representatives of civil society organizations and UN agencies from across the Middle East and North Africa met this month in Egypt to discuss regional progress in strengthening and expanding HIV-related legal services.

Participants from Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia attended the 6th Regional Consultation on HIV-related Legal Services and Rights, hosted by IDLO, the League of Arab States, UNAIDS, UNDP and UNODC.

Among the topics addressed during the Consultation were ways to build on the progress made to date, opportunities for joint advocacy, as well as practical steps to promote national and regional networking, in particular the use of social media.

Since 2010, with the financial support of the Ford Foundation, IDLO has provided technical and financial support to civil society organizations providing legal services to people living with HIV and other key affected populations in Latin America and the Middle East & North Africa.
