SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
Since its establishment, IDLO’s APRC has delivered over 120 training workshops in Asia-Pacific, reaching over 3,000 judges, lawyers and other legal professionals from the public and private sectors and civil society organizations, and has provided valuable technical assistance and capacity building to a number of Governments and institutions in the region. IDLO’s APRC has also delivered training on legal issues to non-lawyers through its work with communities and community-based organizations, especially in Aceh, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.
The focus of activities in Asia-Pacific has been varied, reflecting the legal and judicial needs of countries, institutions and communities at given times. In recent years, IDLO’s Asia-Pacific activities have increasingly focused on addressing legal obstacles that countries face in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. These include programs on economic development and trade, environmental law, HIV/AIDS, and empowerment of women.
IDLO wishes to thank the Attorney-General’s Department of New South Wales for its continuing support, including through the provision of the former Glebe Court House as the APRC’s offices and training centre.
